I admit it...I have been wrapped up - emotionally and logically - watching the drama of Terri Schiavo unfold...
I don't know Michael Schiavo...but it seems that his priorities have changed with the change in his circumstances...and it is clear that it is not he that should be calling the shots for Terri...
Charles Krauthammer, in his eloquent way of speaking and writing, has actually said it best...
And while I may understand many things...this has really kicked my butt...
If Terri Schiavo dies from starvation...and it looks like her husband will be successful in murdering her...it still is beyond belief for me...but, the truth is, we all need to pay very close attention to the laws that exist in our states...and make sure that going forward...we get them changed...
As Krauthammer concludes: There is no good outcome to this case. Except perhaps if Florida and the other states were to amend their laws and resolve conflicts among loved ones differently -- by granting authority not necessarily to the spouse but to whatever first-degree relative (even if in the minority) chooses life and is committed to support it. Call it Terri's law. It would help prevent our having to choose in the future between travesty and tragedy....
