The capsule summary of President Bush's re-election win Tuesday – 51 percent to 48 percent for Democrat John Kerry in the popular vote, 286 Electoral College votes to 252 – understates the magnitude of the Republicans' historic 2004 victory. The red-state, blue-state map, the even more revealing map of counties won by Bush and Kerry, Republican congressional gains and the GOP's vote totals in state after state reveal a political shift bordering on the Republican Party's long-sought goal of national realignment.
This is not to say that the headline measures of Bush's win are less than impressive. They are, in fact, very impressive.
In 2000, Bush lost the nationwide popular vote to Democrat Al Gore by about 500,000 votes. Bush won the presidency that year in the Electoral College on the strength of his 537-vote edge over Gore in Florida, and only after a month of recounts and a U.S. Supreme Court decision.
Compare the 2000 squeaker to what happened in 2004.
This year, Bush beat Democrat John Kerry nationwide by 3.5 million votes in the largest voter turnout percentage since 1968. Bush carried hotly contested Florida by nearly 400,000 votes. No recounts this time. Of the 31 states Bush carried (to Kerry's 19), Republicans increased their vote totals over 2000 in every state but three. Ralph Nader, the spoiler for Democrats in 2000, was an electoral cipher this year. In no state won by Bush did the Nader vote make a difference.
Bush's 59.1 million votes was the highest total for a presidential candidate in American history. Bush's 51 percent of the national vote this year marked the first majority vote for president since Bush's father swamped Michael Dukakis in 1988. Bush's 59 million votes were 4 million more than Ronald Reagan won in the Gipper's landslide re-election victory of 1984. Bush became the first president since Franklin Roosevelt in 1936 to win re-election while adding to his party's majorities in the House and Senate.
Now look beyond these already impressive indices for the full measure of what Republicans won Tuesday.
From California's border to the Atlantic coast and from Canada to Mexico, the political map of the United States is awash in Republican red. A once dominant Democratic Party is now largely confined to three enclaves: the Northeast, a thin fringe along the Pacific coast and the upper Midwest (where shrinking majorities put the Democrats' hold there increasingly at risk). Almost everything else is Republican.
Excepting still-competitive Florida, the entire South is now solidly Republican. Every border state along the old North-South divide went heavily for Bush in 2004. Beyond the Mississippi, Bush and the GOP swept every farm, prairie and mountain state plus Texas, Arizona and New Mexico in the Southwest.
The congressional election returns reflected the Bush-led Republican tide. In Senate races, Republicans exceeded expectations by gaining a net four new seats, giving them a commanding 55-44 (one independent) Senate majority. Among the Republicans' Senate wins, Rep. John Thune beat Senate Minority Leader (and Bush nemesis) Tom Daschle in South Dakota. Daschle is the first Senate leader to be voted out of office since 1952.
Just a decade ago, nearly half of the 11 southern states' U.S. senators were Democrats. Tuesday's election means Republicans will now hold 18 of the 22 southern Senate seats plus all four from Kentucky and Oklahoma.
In the House of Representatives, Republicans added at least four seats to their current majority. That will give Republicans a 233-200 (with one independent and one race yet to be decided) majority in the new House. Republicans now begin their second decade as the majority party in the House. With the demographic center of the American population shifting steadily to the Sun Belt red states of the South and West, House Republicans now stand a good chance of maintaining their majority for a generation.
These are tectonic shifts in American politics.
That they were confirmed and extended this year in particular makes them all the more impressive.
George W. Bush waged his battle for re-election amid staggering adversity: A controversial war, slow recovery from an inherited economic recession, a distinctly hostile press and an unprecedented barrage of venom and vilification from a howling chorus featuring the likes of propagandist Michael Moore, billionaire George Soros, Bush-bashing 527 groups, Hollywood celebs and the liberal-left of the Democratic Party.
That Bush won anyway, and by a decisive margin, sends a sobering message to the national Democratic Party.
In the face of this sea of political troubles, Bush garnered 8.3 million more votes than he received in 2000. Karl Rove's assiduous work in the trenches expanded the Republican Party's electoral base by an election-winning 15 percent. The huge voter turnout everyone assumed would help Kerry win instead boosted Bush to victory.
A glance at the political demographics of that vote should alarm Democrats.
The sleeper issue in this election, all but ignored by the liberal mainstream press, was moral values. Nearly a quarter of those voting Tuesday told exit pollers that their paramount issue was moral values. Of those, 85 percent voted for Bush.
Bush won 55 percent of the Catholic vote, 45 percent of Hispanics, 65 percent of regular churchgoers, 61 percent of Protestants, 40 percent of union members, 54 percent of families with veterans and 54 percent of those with a high school education. The female gender gap that once helped Democrats is disappearing. Bush won 57 percent of married women and nearly half of all female voters, even as he beat Kerry among male voters, 53 percent to 46.
Registered voters are split about evenly as Republicans and Democrats but self-described conservatives outnumber liberals 2-1.
Honest Democrats admit that their party and the Massachusetts liberal they ran for president this year are out of step with mainstream America on fundamental issues of values and culture. Add Bush's clear advantages as a strong, credible commander in chief and the reasons for his re-election are apparent.
Democrats can draw the appropriate lessons or watch as the dominant Republican red across America's political map keeps spreading.

That is not what our constitution is all about. Just because you DO IT, doesn't mean it is right.

The Democrats are certainly reflecting...on how stupid the American voters are.
MSNBC's Eric Alterman was mirroring the Mirror's sentiments: "Slightly more than half of the citizens of this country simply do not care about what those of us in the 'reality-based community' say or believe about anything."
Just in case you missed it, Alterman was referring to the London's Daily Mirror front page: "How Can 59,054,087 People Be So DUMB?"
I mentioned it earlier: over at Slate, Jane Smiley's analysis was headlined, "The Unteachable Ignorance Of The Red States"
If you don't want to bother plowing your way through Alterman and Smiley, a placard prominently displayed by a fetching young lad at the post-election anti-Bush rally in San Francisco cut to the chase: "F--- MIDDLE AMERICA."
I am quoting Mark Steyn's piece in the Chicago Sun Times.
Steyn goes on: Almost right, man. It would be more accurate to say that "MIDDLE AMERICA" has "F---ed" you, and it will continue to do so every two years as long as Democrats insist that anyone who disagrees with them is, ipso facto, a simpleton -- or "Neanderthal," as Teresa Heinz Kerry described those unimpressed by her husband's foreign policy. In my time, I've known dukes, marquesses, earls, viscounts and other members of Britain's House of Lords and none of them had the contempt for the masses one routinely hears from America's coastal elites. And, in fairness to those ermined aristocrats, they could afford Dem-style contempt: A seat in the House of Lords is for life; a Senate seat in South Dakota isn't.

I like that term because it speaks directly to the discussion about whether or not to do away with the Electoral College.
I think America GOT IT.
In spite of four years of hate. In spite of the millions poured into a campaign AGAINST someone rather than FOR SOMETHING.
Hate is not an agenda. And, until the Democrats wake up and realize that tiny truth, they are going to continue to cry and ask themselves 'what went wrong?' every two years.

Al-Qa'ida Women's Magazine: Women Must Participate in Jihad
The blood of our husbands and the body parts of our children are the sacrifice by means of which we draw closer to Allah, so that through us, Allah will cause the Shahada (martyrdom) for His sake to succeed.
With that statement, the new online magazine Al-Khansaa, published by Al Qa'ida's Arabian Peninsula Women's Information Bureau, calls women to Jihad.
The first issue features articles calling on women to participate in Jihad, along with an article criticizing women in Saudi television.
Some excerpts:
"The female Jihad warrior must be familiar with various types of weapons and ammunition, and with how to disassemble, clean, reassemble, use, and shoot a weapon. With Allah's help, we will assist her in this matter in upcoming issues [of our magazine].
"Weak belief and connection to this world: We see the Muslim woman crying in sadness over her sisters in Iraq, over women prisoners in Palestine, over bereaved mothers in Chechnya, and over orphans in Afghanistan, and in the rest of the Islamic lands. We hear her threaten the enemies and plan to help [Muslim women]. Then, in time of emergency, she turns back; she clings to her work and her status, and it is difficult for her to leave them...
"It is true that originally the commandment of Jihad was incumbent upon men and not women. The woman's Jihad is pilgrimage to Mecca, and pilgrimage to Mecca not during the Hajj. But when Jihad becomes a personal obligation, then the woman is summoned like a man, and need ask permission neither from her husband nor from her guardian, because she is obligated and none need to ask permission in order to carry out a commandment that everyone must carry out..."
Al-Khansaa, August 2004. Al-Khansaa bint Omar, a poetess of the pre-Islamic period who converted to Islam during the time of the Prophet Muhammad, is considered the "mother of the Shahids (martyrs)." When her four sons died in the battle of Al-Qadissiyya, she did not mourn but thanked Allah for honoring her with their death.
Another article, "The Feminine View," criticized women as television presenters and correspondents: "The striptease campaign still continues, and the so-called Saudi regime's Channel Two is still presenting women, [as it has] since it was founded. We have seen no vehement stand by our clerics...
"The women of the Arabian Peninsula appear on the television screens on the news programs [as broadcasters]. Moreover, even the correspondents are sometimes female. Women on news [programs] has today become a requirement, while in the past there was no need for it whatsoever."
Still thinking there is no terrorist threat? The maniacal goal is to either convert or kill anyone that doesn't subscribe to their beliefs.
If this doesn't make your blood run cold, nothing will.

It’s About Protecting the Little Guy...a Concept as American as Apple Pie...
Steve Farrell, associate professor of political economy at George Wythe College, wrote a timely piece about The Wisdom Of The Electoral College.
Farrell believes the electoral college needs to stand, and I agree with him.
To understand why, we must remember that the Founders gave us a republic not a democracy, and with that, a system of mixed representation with mixed electoral methods, which rejected the one person, one vote, ‘majority is the voice of God,’ like it or not, mindset.
There were reasons. Madison noted that the idea was to multiply and complicate the numbers of parties and interests that compete for power, and to multiply and complicate HOW they compete for power, in order to place a substantial check on centralization, that enemy of all freedom.
Some of us forget that old motto ‘absolute power corrupts absolutely’ had a sister motto, “the accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.”
That is, there were 3 extremes that tended to tyranny: monarchy, aristocracy, and democracy. —That’s right, democracy was on the list, and was considered by most of the Founders the worst form of all.
Madison noted in Federalist 10, “Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention, have ever been found personal security or the rights of property; and have ever been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.”
While Hamilton noted at the Constitutional Convention that “the fate of Republican government” hinges upon “due stability.” Democracies were not stable. “If we incline too much to democracy, we shall soon shoot into a monarchy.”
He recommended a “moderate government.” That is, a mixed republic, something which incorporates the democratic/representative principle, yet is far more ingenious then mere mob rule.
Listen, you can’t have one group, or a few large states with a few large cities calling all the shots. And when you think about it, I really don’t believe any of us think places like New York City and L.A. ought to be empowered to tell all the rest of us how we must live.
But maybe THEY, or some of their grasping politicians do.
This is an old discussion. You’ll remember from history that during the time of the Constitutional Convention the large states thought it only fair and democratic that Congressmen be chosen according to population.
Sure they did.
The small states thought that idea wasn’t fair at all. They weren’t fools. They knew it would just be a matter of time till the big states, the big cities, the big manufacturers, bossed the small states, the small towns, the small farmers around.
The answer was the Great Compromise. It brought us proportional representation in the House (the number of representatives chosen as per population), and equal representation in the Senate (two votes per state, regardless of population). Further, Senators were chosen by the state legislatures (another check in favor of state rights).
Part 2 of the answer was the electoral college in Presidential Elections, which mirrored the same compromise, giving each state the same combined number of electoral votes as Senators and House members, while providing, similarly, indirect representation via state appointed electors casting the final vote.
In practical terms, this helps give smaller states and ‘smaller’ interests a slight advantage disproportionate to their population, placing a check upon the larger states and ‘larger’ interests.

Netherlands braces for 'jihad'
According to this article in the Washington Times, attached to the body of filmmaker Theo van Gogh, was titled "An Open Letter to [Aayan] Hirsi Ali," referring to a Somali-born member of parliament. She had scripted Mr. van Gogh's latest film, "Submission," which criticized the treatment of women under Islam.
The letter's author went into pretty specific detail on what his vision of the future world will look like:

Can There Be A Healing?
When giving his concession speech on Wednesday, John Kerry called on everyone to stop the hate rhetoric and to begin working on healing this country:
"There is a desperate need for unity, for finding a common ground, and for coming together. Today I hope we can begin the healing," Kerry said. "I wish things would have turned out differently ... but the next morning we all wake up as Americans. We are required now to work together for the good of our country. We must find a common cause. America is in need of unity and longing for a larger measure of compassion."
I have yet to find any indication of it.

I also have noted the ones that have slandered GW (along with the rest of us 'fly-over' folks) or gone out and actively worked to oust him:

Seems to me like these folks jumped on a bandwagon they thought was 'cool' and tried to outdo each other in expressing their hatred for President Bush.
Only trouble is, they didn't consider how those ad hominem attacks would affect us. Add to the list Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Harry Belafonte, Ed Asner, Sean Penn, Madonna...well I will be here all day if I list every one of them. This is a good site and there are more.
There are plenty of hollywood types that I am sure didn't vote for Bush, but I didn't see them rushing to grab the microphone so that we could watch them slime the president.
I realize that my paltry amount that I set aside for 'entertainment' will not make a dent, hell won't make even a ding, in the money these 'stars' rake in - but I will get the satisfaction of knowing that I am not contributing to what I consider a violation of the trust we put in entertainers.
Trust, you say?
Yes - trust. When I buy a ticket to watch an entertainer perform, that is what I expect that I am going to see - a performance. If I wanted to sit through a political debate, that is what I would look for in the local 'Get Out' weekend edition - in the 'political debates playing this weekend' section.
I trust that when an entertainer bills him or herself as that, they are going to make me laugh at their jokes; sing along with the familiar ballads; you get the picture.
In other words, I am going to read the credits more carefully when deciding whether or not to plunk down my cash.
And PLEASE - don't call it reverse blacklisting.
Call it what it is.
It is the 'You Reap What You Sow' factor.

John Kerry, the deer-in-the-headlight Democratic presidential candidate conceded the election to President Bush today.
Kerry never was able to convince a majority of voters that his 'plan' - whatever it was (we never found out) - would make him a better choice for the office of President of the United States of America.
Perhaps that was really pre-ordained by the Democratic Machine.
Perhaps Kerry was simply thrust into the ring with the knowledge that he would be KO'd by the third round.
And perhaps underestimated was the influx of noise and cash that came from the main stream media, Michael Moore and George Soros - giving Kerry more 'staying power' than he could ever have mustered on his own.
Whatever the case, Kerry obviously has overstayed his welcome and we will more than likely see over the next couple of days a disavowment of him by the libs as they begin to get ready to run Hillary in 2008.

What's at Stake in This Election

Ladies and gentlemen, I have avoided throughout the whole year declaring this the most important election in our history. I mean, we've had crucial elections before during the Civil War, during World Wars. We had numerous crucial elections during the Cold War, and we've had a divided electorate before. This isn't the first time that we have settled national arguments or even a single national argument over several election cycles. Well, that having been said, this time there is one high stakes issue that makes domestic concerns pale in comparison, and that is the growth of international terrorism -- and this is the prelude to getting into the bin Laden tape that came out on Friday.
International terrorism, which claimed over 800 American lives in what I guess could be called "nuisance" attacks before September 11th, 2001. The growth of international terrorism is a real clear and present danger.
I mean, not just to us, but to all of Western Civilization.
Only since September 11th has this threat been met with the full projection of American power, and just as important, American political will. Now, despite the claims of one candidate and his party and his allies around the world, we have friends in this struggle. We have friends that include East European nations who were oppressed under communism for almost 60 years and do not want a return to anything like that. We have friends in support from Pacific Rim nations, from nations in Africa and western powers like the Brits and the Aussies who have been steadfast allies throughout.
But the truth of the matter is, America is the dominant power and economy in the world today. We determine the course of freedom throughout the world, not just here in the United States of America. It is something that has to be fought for on a daily basis. It's something that far too many people take for granted. It is something that far too many people think that can be purchased with appeasement of enemies. You can't purchase peace with appeasement. I heard over the weekend, "You can only rent it for a while," but eventually you're going to have to make the buy. You're going to have to purchase peace. You don't get it because you want it. You don't get it because you bury your head in the sand and ignore it. You don't get peace, you don't continue the lifestyle of freedom and liberty that we in this country too often take for granted simply by wanting it more than the other guy.
You have to back it up and you have to defend it, and to defend it you have to recognize when it's under attack, and recognizing when it's under attack takes courage. Recognizing when we are under attack takes wide open eyes, takes honesty. Because once you admit, once you come to the intellectual decision, not emotional, once you come to the intellectual decision to admit, to understand that our way of life, that our freedom that, our daily existence as we've always known it is under attack, once you come to that conclusion, then there's only one option you have, and that is to defend it. We are under attack. The truth is that we have been under attack for many years by the same type of people who think in the same way fanatic Islamists have been attacking freedom and Americans for over 20 years.
It's only in the last three years that we've decided to do something about it. We now find ourselves at a crossroads. Are we going to continue to do something about it or are we going to rent peace for awhile and allow Osama bin Laden at the end of the day tomorrow to go ahead and claim that he and he alone influenced the outcome of the United States elections? Are we going to have a victory for Osama bin Laden tomorrow and give him bragging rights across the Middle East and in the worlds of the left and in the process create a whole new generation of terrorists? Here is a man who is so incapacitated because we've made the decision to fight and defend our freedom that all he can launch as an October Surprise is a tape that appears to come right out of the text of the movie Fahrenheit 9/11.
Osama bin Laden cannot launch an attack on the United States of America. Osama bin Laden can only deliver a tape, and on that tape, bin Laden appeals to the very appeasers in this country who would allow him to gain strength by agreeing with what he says and voting for the man who is being quoted by bin Laden. John Kerry, as much as Michael Moore, was quoted by Osama bin Laden in that video that we all saw Friday and over the weekend, and I have eight audio sound bites here that I'm going to get to later in the program to prove this to you. You can say it came out of Fahrenheit 9/11, but so did the Kerry campaign. Michael Moore is not on the ballot; John Kerry is. Osama bin Laden parroting John Kerry in his tape on Friday. We have a unique responsibility to lead the world in confronting and defeating this evil threat. It's not just ourselves that we are defending, and this is despite nations who oppose us.
Many of these nations that oppose us do not face the threat that we face. Many of the nations that oppose us are doing so in part to protect their financial ties with terrorist nations. We have never in our history relied on others to defend us. We have never in our history turned over our defense to others, either an institution of nations or a single nation. It is they who come to us.
Therefore, it is us who must come to us, or we who must come to us. We must rely on ourselves in this battle. For over three decades, 30 years, terrorist organizations grew wealthy, they grew more deadly. Despite increasingly brazen attacks, American deaths were brushed off, and those years are now being referred to by the Democratic presidential candidate as the nuisance of terrorism that he would like to return to, where for three decades American deaths were brushed off.
Returning to the days of appeasement, trying to meet a "global test" of world opinion, ignoring threats from hostile nations and groups is a deadly mistake we simply can't afford to make. Those are the stakes in this race, but it goes beyond simply ignoring threats from hostile nations and groups. It's gotten to the point now where the Democratic Party is actually echoing the words of a man who happily murdered 3,000 Americans on September 11th. The Democrat Party in this country is eager to point to the things bin Laden said and suggest that he is right -- a man who happily murdered 3,000 Americans and is eager to do so over and over and over again! You say, "Rush, I haven't heard the Democrats say that." Oh, you can find it on their websites. You can find people who are going to vote for John Kerry who have said this. You can find people on various Democrat websites who are excited bin Laden said what he said. They're hoping for an Osama smack down of Bush if I may quote one of the things I saw.
But the point is you haven't heard anybody in the Democratic Party renounce this for three years. For the last nine months, you haven't heard anybody in the Kerry campaign, not one voice, not one reasonable, responsible voice from the Democrat Party reject any of the slanderous, libelous, vicious, totally made-up lies and attacks about George W. Bush, as "the next Hitler," as "worse than Saddam." You know the list of things. They have encouraged this thinking. You might say, "Why?" The acquisition of their power is crucial to them. They care more about that than anything else, and they are in their minds because they have a superior attitude over America. They have an arrogant, condescending attitude to those they live with and live near. They believe that it is their entitlement, that they are born to power. It's their right, and that right has been interrupted since 1994 and it's time for them to get it back. And they, in their minds, are permitted to lie for "the common good," as they define it.
They are allowed to attack and cheat and do whatever because in their minds they are doing it for "the common good" so they are not lying; they're not cheating. They're doing what's for "the common good" as they see it from their position of superiority. It's amazing. We have, in this campaign, we have George W. Bush, who has a record, a four-year record. He had to make decisions about life and death and war and peace, and he made them. He made them and he has stuck to them, and there are demonstrable pieces of evidence all over the world of the profound success of those decisions.
His opponent has run on platitudes, promises, mysterious plans that you either have to go to his website to read or, when you go there, you'll find that many of them don't even exist.
We have a man who even today, in an AP interview, said something along the lines of, "Well, I'll tell you again what I'm going to do in January. I can't tell you now." John Kerry, on the eve of the election: a man who doesn't want to be pinned down on anything, a man who doesn't want to have to offer a solid position on anything for fear of what that will do to him in the polls. He is free to Monday morning quarterback; he is free to use hindsight. He's taken every decision that has been made and said, "I would have done it different or better or smarter," but never define how. The fact that this race is as close as it is, is what befuddles me when you get right down to it.
In the America I thought I knew, John Kerry wouldn't be within 30 points, nor would anybody in the Democratic Party, using their campaign, their rhetoric, their mean-spirited bile. There's no candidate in their party using this campaign and using the allies they've used that would be within 30 points of George W. Bush. It may not be the America I know, so we have to fight for that, as well as our liberty at the same time -- and that's what it takes, folks. You have to fight, even for the people who are wrong. The people are too blind or too uninformed or too uneducated or too ignorant or too whatever to see the threat that faces them because they refuse to take a look at it. That's the job that we all have. That's what you do when you fight for your country: You fight for everybody in it.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have avoided throughout the whole year declaring this the most important election in our history. I mean, we've had crucial elections before during the Civil War, during World Wars. We had numerous crucial elections during the Cold War, and we've had a divided electorate before. This isn't the first time that we have settled national arguments or even a single national argument over several election cycles. Well, that having been said, this time there is one high stakes issue that makes domestic concerns pale in comparison, and that is the growth of international terrorism -- and this is the prelude to getting into the bin Laden tape that came out on Friday.
International terrorism, which claimed over 800 American lives in what I guess could be called "nuisance" attacks before September 11th, 2001. The growth of international terrorism is a real clear and present danger.
I mean, not just to us, but to all of Western Civilization.
Only since September 11th has this threat been met with the full projection of American power, and just as important, American political will. Now, despite the claims of one candidate and his party and his allies around the world, we have friends in this struggle. We have friends that include East European nations who were oppressed under communism for almost 60 years and do not want a return to anything like that. We have friends in support from Pacific Rim nations, from nations in Africa and western powers like the Brits and the Aussies who have been steadfast allies throughout.
But the truth of the matter is, America is the dominant power and economy in the world today. We determine the course of freedom throughout the world, not just here in the United States of America. It is something that has to be fought for on a daily basis. It's something that far too many people take for granted. It is something that far too many people think that can be purchased with appeasement of enemies. You can't purchase peace with appeasement. I heard over the weekend, "You can only rent it for a while," but eventually you're going to have to make the buy. You're going to have to purchase peace. You don't get it because you want it. You don't get it because you bury your head in the sand and ignore it. You don't get peace, you don't continue the lifestyle of freedom and liberty that we in this country too often take for granted simply by wanting it more than the other guy.
You have to back it up and you have to defend it, and to defend it you have to recognize when it's under attack, and recognizing when it's under attack takes courage. Recognizing when we are under attack takes wide open eyes, takes honesty. Because once you admit, once you come to the intellectual decision, not emotional, once you come to the intellectual decision to admit, to understand that our way of life, that our freedom that, our daily existence as we've always known it is under attack, once you come to that conclusion, then there's only one option you have, and that is to defend it. We are under attack. The truth is that we have been under attack for many years by the same type of people who think in the same way fanatic Islamists have been attacking freedom and Americans for over 20 years.
It's only in the last three years that we've decided to do something about it. We now find ourselves at a crossroads. Are we going to continue to do something about it or are we going to rent peace for awhile and allow Osama bin Laden at the end of the day tomorrow to go ahead and claim that he and he alone influenced the outcome of the United States elections? Are we going to have a victory for Osama bin Laden tomorrow and give him bragging rights across the Middle East and in the worlds of the left and in the process create a whole new generation of terrorists? Here is a man who is so incapacitated because we've made the decision to fight and defend our freedom that all he can launch as an October Surprise is a tape that appears to come right out of the text of the movie Fahrenheit 9/11.
Osama bin Laden cannot launch an attack on the United States of America. Osama bin Laden can only deliver a tape, and on that tape, bin Laden appeals to the very appeasers in this country who would allow him to gain strength by agreeing with what he says and voting for the man who is being quoted by bin Laden. John Kerry, as much as Michael Moore, was quoted by Osama bin Laden in that video that we all saw Friday and over the weekend, and I have eight audio sound bites here that I'm going to get to later in the program to prove this to you. You can say it came out of Fahrenheit 9/11, but so did the Kerry campaign. Michael Moore is not on the ballot; John Kerry is. Osama bin Laden parroting John Kerry in his tape on Friday. We have a unique responsibility to lead the world in confronting and defeating this evil threat. It's not just ourselves that we are defending, and this is despite nations who oppose us.
Many of these nations that oppose us do not face the threat that we face. Many of the nations that oppose us are doing so in part to protect their financial ties with terrorist nations. We have never in our history relied on others to defend us. We have never in our history turned over our defense to others, either an institution of nations or a single nation. It is they who come to us.
Therefore, it is us who must come to us, or we who must come to us. We must rely on ourselves in this battle. For over three decades, 30 years, terrorist organizations grew wealthy, they grew more deadly. Despite increasingly brazen attacks, American deaths were brushed off, and those years are now being referred to by the Democratic presidential candidate as the nuisance of terrorism that he would like to return to, where for three decades American deaths were brushed off.
Returning to the days of appeasement, trying to meet a "global test" of world opinion, ignoring threats from hostile nations and groups is a deadly mistake we simply can't afford to make. Those are the stakes in this race, but it goes beyond simply ignoring threats from hostile nations and groups. It's gotten to the point now where the Democratic Party is actually echoing the words of a man who happily murdered 3,000 Americans on September 11th. The Democrat Party in this country is eager to point to the things bin Laden said and suggest that he is right -- a man who happily murdered 3,000 Americans and is eager to do so over and over and over again! You say, "Rush, I haven't heard the Democrats say that." Oh, you can find it on their websites. You can find people who are going to vote for John Kerry who have said this. You can find people on various Democrat websites who are excited bin Laden said what he said. They're hoping for an Osama smack down of Bush if I may quote one of the things I saw.
But the point is you haven't heard anybody in the Democratic Party renounce this for three years. For the last nine months, you haven't heard anybody in the Kerry campaign, not one voice, not one reasonable, responsible voice from the Democrat Party reject any of the slanderous, libelous, vicious, totally made-up lies and attacks about George W. Bush, as "the next Hitler," as "worse than Saddam." You know the list of things. They have encouraged this thinking. You might say, "Why?" The acquisition of their power is crucial to them. They care more about that than anything else, and they are in their minds because they have a superior attitude over America. They have an arrogant, condescending attitude to those they live with and live near. They believe that it is their entitlement, that they are born to power. It's their right, and that right has been interrupted since 1994 and it's time for them to get it back. And they, in their minds, are permitted to lie for "the common good," as they define it.
They are allowed to attack and cheat and do whatever because in their minds they are doing it for "the common good" so they are not lying; they're not cheating. They're doing what's for "the common good" as they see it from their position of superiority. It's amazing. We have, in this campaign, we have George W. Bush, who has a record, a four-year record. He had to make decisions about life and death and war and peace, and he made them. He made them and he has stuck to them, and there are demonstrable pieces of evidence all over the world of the profound success of those decisions.
His opponent has run on platitudes, promises, mysterious plans that you either have to go to his website to read or, when you go there, you'll find that many of them don't even exist.
We have a man who even today, in an AP interview, said something along the lines of, "Well, I'll tell you again what I'm going to do in January. I can't tell you now." John Kerry, on the eve of the election: a man who doesn't want to be pinned down on anything, a man who doesn't want to have to offer a solid position on anything for fear of what that will do to him in the polls. He is free to Monday morning quarterback; he is free to use hindsight. He's taken every decision that has been made and said, "I would have done it different or better or smarter," but never define how. The fact that this race is as close as it is, is what befuddles me when you get right down to it.
In the America I thought I knew, John Kerry wouldn't be within 30 points, nor would anybody in the Democratic Party, using their campaign, their rhetoric, their mean-spirited bile. There's no candidate in their party using this campaign and using the allies they've used that would be within 30 points of George W. Bush. It may not be the America I know, so we have to fight for that, as well as our liberty at the same time -- and that's what it takes, folks. You have to fight, even for the people who are wrong. The people are too blind or too uninformed or too uneducated or too ignorant or too whatever to see the threat that faces them because they refuse to take a look at it. That's the job that we all have. That's what you do when you fight for your country: You fight for everybody in it.

The "honorable discharge" on the Kerry Web site appears to be a Carter administration substitute for an original action expunged from Mr. Kerry's record, according to Mark Sullivan, who retired as a captain in the Navy's Judge Advocate General Corps Reserve in 2003 after 33 years of service as a judge advocate. Mr. Sullivan served in the office of the Secretary of the Navy between 1975 and 1977.
On behalf of the Kerry campaign, Michael Meehan and others have repeatedly insisted that all of Mr. Kerry's military records are on his Web site atjohnkerry.com, except for his medical records.

Thousands of volunteer lawyers are flying to Florida to act as poll watchers and intervene should there be any attempts to deny anyone their right to vote. They will NOT be messing around.
For my part, I have organized an army of 1,200 professional and amateur filmmakers who will be armed with video cameras throughout the states of Florida and Ohio. At the first sign of criminality, we will dispatch a camera crew to where the vote fraud is taking place and record what is going on. We will put a big public spotlight on any wrongdoing by Republican officials in those two states. They will not get away with this as they did in 2000.
In Ohio, the Republicans are sending almost 2,000 paid “poll challengers” into the black precincts of Cleveland in an attempt to stop African Americans from voting. This action is beyond despicable. Do not let this stop you from voting. I, and thousand of others, will be there to fight for you and protect you.

The caller traced the call by pushing *69 on her phone and - LO and BEHOLD - the call originated from our local newspaper - The Arizona Republic.

Heinz Kerry's Brother Is A Maoist...
Teresa Heinz Kerry has a brother, Jose Ferreira that has been keeping a verrrry low profile and it turns out that he has a very interesting history.
According to the article in the Philadelphia Tribune Review:
Jose Ferreira surfaced in the article only as an unnamed "older brother who attended Cambridge."
Heinz Kerry's public comments regarding her older brother are scarce.
Ferreira briefly surfaced in a November 1974 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette story on her thoughts on the political unrest transpiring at the time in her native Mozambique.
She was quoted in the article as saying she did not want the nation to be controlled by Maoists "because they're going to ruin African nationalism." She noted, however, that she did not mind Maoists in the government, and she mentioned that Ferreira had been a Maoist when he was younger.
Excuse me?!!??

Vice President Cheney stated today "The thing that I find amazing about it is that John Kerry's first response was to go conduct a poll," Cheney told supporters in Fort Dodge, Iowa. "He went into the field ... to find out what he should say about this tape of Osama bin Laden."
"It's as though he doesn't know what he believes until he has to go and check the polls, his finger in the air, to see which way the wind is blowing and then he'll make a decision," said the vice president, who offered no evidence to back up his claim. "

Heinz Papers Should Be Unsealed, Judge Rules
The New York Times is reporting that A judge has ordered that most court records from a 1994 lawsuit by Teresa Heinz Kerry and her sons regarding the airplane crash that killed Senator H. John Heinz III be made public.
While lawyers for the Heinz family and estate have appealed to the State Supreme Court to take the case....Judge Tressler said he had originally agreed to seal the records to minimize the danger of an unfair trial because of publicity about the case. However, the case was settled before trial.
He ruled that reasons given by Heinz family lawyers - which referred to the family's privacy and security and the fact that the records had been sealed for eight years - did not rise to that level.

Like all of our presidents, George W. Bush is quintessentially an American. He’s a Cowboy. A Texan. He will never be mistaken for a Frenchman. He’s a Yalie. He’s a man of faith, a husband and father. He’s a man who has fought with and overcome addiction. He’s a man of strength and character.
And while he is also wrong on some issues, if I have to work harder on social issues, I want it to be against a man whom I can admire, who I know, despite our disagreements, honors me in his work to keep this nation free and great.
For those of you who are Democrats and liberals—and I know through my years as a leader in left wing causes, including feminist and gay activism—we all have gone through a sort of conditioning that makes dissent or difference a frightening prospect. Republicans and conservatives have been decidedly demonized in your circle—perhaps by your own friends and family.
Let me tell you this--voting for the President does not change who you are or what you stand for. John Kerry - Man of Conviction or Man of Convenience?
Sometimes I get the impression that John Kerry is the candidate with the ‘deer in the headlights’ look. I look at him and listen to his rhetoric and am struck by the fact that had not Howard Dean imploded during the primaries, it would be Dean that we would be listening to on a daily basis rather than Kerry.
It occurs to me that Kerry was actually thrust on the national stage with half-baked ideas, not one of them yet solidified as far as I can see, running for an office that he is ill-prepared to handle.
He has a PLAN. Kerry has a PLAN for everything – at least he tells us so. But he has yet to expand on any of those PLANS to give any of us an inkling of what he is PLANNING to do if he happens to be propelled into office by the millions of dollars that are being spent by the hate-mongering crowd that is supporting his campaign.
Mind you, the I-HATE-BUSH crowd supports Kerry’s campaign, not the man.
That could be Daffy Duck up there running against George W. Bush and the hate rhetoric would be just as loud, just as strong.
Running on yesterday's promises and last century's dreams...the Democratic Party has picked the perfect candidate.

Mark Steyn's new column "Justifications for backing Kerry fall flat" is a hilarious breakdown of the various 'supporters' of Kerry:

Steyn moves on to question the veracity of the Dems screeching argument about how inept Bush was to let the weapons 'disappear' (those weapons that were never there and that Bush LIED about, remember?):
My version of this story -- they were smuggled out to Syria pre-invasion -- fits the Bush view of the war. But Kerry's version of this story undermines the Kerry view of the war -- or, at any rate, the most recent Kerry view of the war. That's the best clue as to the resolve he'd show as President: He has no internal conviction of his own, and so his campaign has run on incoherent reflex oppositionism, as, indeed, his Senate career has -- if America had followed the positions advocated by John Kerry, there would have been no Reagan arms build-up, and the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact would have lingered on, and their clients in Grenada would have destabilized the rest of the Caribbean, and Latin America would not have been democratized, and Saddam Hussein would still be in power and still controlling Kuwait. Kerry's lovebirds at the Washington Post et al. are dreaming of a transformation in their unlovely swain that would be at odds not just with his last three decades but with his last three weeks.
Steyn finishes with a very strong reminder that the Democratic Party of today is nothing more than an empty shell of what existed during the FDR era:
The Dems got a full tank from FDR, a top-up in the Civil Rights era, and they've been running on fumes for 30 years. Their last star, Bill Clinton, has no legacy because, deft as he was, his Democratic Party had no purpose other than as a vehicle for promoting his own indispensability...
And he is right on. The hollow accusations resonate with uneducated voters. Which is, by the way, exactly how the Democrats would leave them - uneducated...unable to take care of themselves...completely dependent on the huge bureaucracy that is going to be built with the tax increases if they get their way.

Kerry's Questionable Military Discharge

Frankly, I am amazed that no one has bothered to look further into this matter. Lipscomb lays out a very logical basis for questioning the timing of Kerry's discharge along with the Form DD 215, "Correction to DD Form 214'", filed by John Kerry, which embellishes the original "Vietnam Service Medal" to "Vietnam Service Medal with 4 bronze stars". This has been challenged by many vets who claim that there is no such thing!
But the larger issue still remains the timing, which this post at Human Events Online details very well, quoting Thomas Lipscomb from the New York Sun and Geoff Metcalf at NewsMax.
Bottom line - John Forbes Kerry needs to sign Military Form 180. We deserve to know the truth.

John Kerry demands "tax fairness for Americans." This is his euphemism for fleecing Americans who pay the highest taxes. What he calls "tax fairness," Karl Marx called wealth redistribution.
"Tax fairness" for Kerry just means ripping off the rich and redistributing their wealth to Americans who don't even pay taxes. He says that he will raises taxes on families earning more than $200,000 a year but will cut taxes on the "middle class."
Kerry's "middle class tax cut" will amount to government subsidies for Americans not paying taxes. In his mind, a middle class tax cut is a government-subsidized job retraining program. Notice he never straightforwardly says that he will cut the middle class's income taxes but rather, "We're going to invest in our people again."
Kerry has always gravitated to the rhetoric of class warfare just as he has to crackpot world leaders who traffic in it. His support for "Father Aristide," the Marxist inciter of political killings Kerry tries to pass off as a benign priest, stems in part from Kerry's weakness for the class-warfare liberation theology the defrocked priest peddled.

Kerry's limousine liberation theology led him into one of the most embarrassing moments of his early Senate career -- his disastrous Neville Chamberlain-style diplomacy with Sandinista leader Daniel Ortega. Shortly after becoming a Senator, Kerry took off for Nicaragua with Tom Harkin on a free-lancing fact-finding tour, the purpose of which was to stymie congressional support for the Contras by "finding" that the Sandinistas weren't such bad guys after all. After Kerry met with Ortega, he returned to Washington waving a promise from Ortega that the Communist leader would moderate his policies. "We believe this is a wonderful opening for a peaceful settlement without having to militarize the region," Kerry said. "The real issue is: Is this administration going to overthrow the government of the Sandinistas no matter what they do? This opportunity puts this to the test." The normally cautious Secretary of State George Shultz was so flabbergasted by Kerry's shilling for Ortega that he denounced Kerry publicly for "dealing with the communists" and letting himself be "used" by Ortega.
Kerry's diplomacy blew up in his face. As Kerry was reassuring his colleagues that Ortega wouldn't establish Soviet and Cuban bases in Nicaragua, Ortega (a few days after he met with Kerry) was flying to Moscow to arrange a $200 million transfer of Soviet monies to Nicaragua. Kerry's sales pitch for the Sandinistas -- "I see an enormous haughtiness in the United States trying to tell them what to do. Our economic squeeze on them is very sad. The whole population is suffering" -- worked in Congress. It voted against aid to the Contras, even as Ortega was collecting aid from his Soviet bosses.
This angered Republican senators enough that they wondered if Harkin and Kerry hadn't known about Ortega's impending trip to Moscow and just didn't tell their colleagues about it lest the information change the vote. Said one press report at the time: "Liberal freshman Senators John Kerry and Thomas Harkin made a much publicized trip to Nicaragua shortly before the May vote in Congress on U.S. aid for the anti-communist freedom fighters. Insiders say the two senators learned while in Managua that Nicaraguan ruler Daniel Ortega was planning a trip to Moscow to ask for more Soviet support for his communist government, yet the senators failed to mention Ortega's plans, either to the State Department or to their colleagues in the Congress, before a majority in the House voted against aid for the freedom fighters."

According to Edward Robinson, Bloomberg Markets Magazine, the amount of money that has been spent by Democrats compared to Republicans in contributions to 527 organizations, is now defined by a margin of 9 to 1.
George Soros has spent $43 million, including contributions to "America Coming Together", trying to get the current American president, George W. Bush, out of office.

HOWEVER,

Their threats are meaningless to me.
I have to vote for the person that I know will go to bed each night with the weight of the security of MY FAMILY on his heart.
I have to vote for the person that I know will not cut and run – for that will spell immediate defeat.
I have to vote for the only person on that ballot that has the experience, the knowledge…and the balls…to stand up for what is right…and to defend our right to live in this country with all of the freedoms that our ancestors fought – and died – for.

Labor Memo Suggests Bush to Win Election is the title of the article at Newsday.com.
Labor Department staff, analyzing statistics from private economists, report in an internal memo that President Bush is likely to do "much better" in Tuesday's election than the polls are predicting.
Of course the Kerry campaign is complaining.
Kerry's campaign contended the Bush administration was wasting taxpayers' money:
"If the Bush administration focused more on the economy and less on politics, George Bush would not be the first president in 70 years to lose jobs," said Kerry campaign spokesman Phil Singer. "George Bush has turned the government into his own taxpayer-funded political machine."

The document also includes a Washington Post story, an article from Monster.com and charts and briefs on the latest economic indicators.
One factor in the election that has been "downplayed is the president's popularity," a variable the report says may be important. "Fortunately, there are models (that) incorporate this concept," it says.
The economic models are not infallible, but they do "systematically measure past data, which is a far cry better than relying on anecdotal evidence," the paper says. The models looked at an array of economic indicators, including gross domestic product, unemployment and inflation.
The analysis also discusses a futures market that lets players bid on a probable election outcome. It also checked Web sites of oddsmakers in America and abroad.

Rock the Vote Backfiring on Libs??
Information on a poll of voters newly registered by the Rock the Vote group, polled by Pace University indicate that the young voters are leaning.... CONSERVATIVE!
Although the news release states that "newly-registered voters think country is headed wrong" - buried in the report is this:

This is the George Sorosization of the Democratic party. As we will see, this idea of “scruples” being for the other guy has been central to Soros’ philosophy in business, philanthropy, and foreign policy.
Supporters and defenders of the United States Constitution should take note.

The Stakes Are High
Americans for Peace Through Strength have a new video out titled "The Stakes Are High".
The ad is produced by Americans for Peace Through strength, a pro-defense 527 political organization, in response to Kerry's claim in his Sept. 30 debate with President Bush that his approach to U.S. foreign policy -- particularly in the area of world alliances -- would mirror Reagan's.
"I have been outraged at John Kerry's comparing himself to Ronald Reagan, whose policies Kerry consistently fought during Reagan's presidency," said Stephen K. Bannon, who directed the ad, which highlights Kerry's opposition to the Reagan-era defense build-up as well as several of the 40th president's global strategic initiatives.
Also available is a reprint of the Weekly Standard article, John Kerry's anti-Cold War'84 Campaign.

IRS Reviewing the NAACP's Tax-Exempt Status
According to this article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune
The Internal Revenue Service has begun reviewing the NAACP's tax-exempt status, citing concerns over a speech given by its chairman at its annual convention last July in Philadelphia.
IRS officials said they could not discuss the specifics of any case. But IRS commissioner Mark Everson issued a statement denying that the agency's interest in the NAACP was politically motivated.
"The IRS follows strict procedures involving the selection of tax-exempt organizations for audit and resolution of any complaints about such groups," Everson said.
"Career civil servants, not political appointees, make these decisions in a fair, impartial manner. Any suggestion that the IRS has tilted its audit activities for political purposes is repugnant and groundless."

Curt Schilling to Campaign with President Bush
After endorsing President Bush on Good Morning America Red Sox pitching ace Curt Schilling will accompany President George W. Bush to his campaign stops in Manchester and Portsmouth on Friday.
It is unclear if Schilling will be wearing his now-legendary bloody sock, which came to symbolize the Red Sox’ dramatic run to their first World Series title in 86 years. But don’t be surprised if he waves it to the crowd, or if the crowd waves mock bloody socks at him in appreciation of his courageous pitching performances during the playoffs and World Series.
Schilling made the unexpected endorsement of the President on the ABC program just as he and his wife, Shonda, wrapped up an interview with host Charles Gibson.
“And make sure you tell everybody to vote,” Schilling said Gibson, “and vote Bush next week.”
Anybody that gives Diane Sawyer heartburn is okay in my book.

The Choice: This is Hilarious!
