When giving his concession speech on Wednesday, John Kerry called on everyone to stop the hate rhetoric and to begin working on healing this country:
"There is a desperate need for unity, for finding a common ground, and for coming together. Today I hope we can begin the healing," Kerry said. "I wish things would have turned out differently ... but the next morning we all wake up as Americans. We are required now to work together for the good of our country. We must find a common cause. America is in need of unity and longing for a larger measure of compassion."
I have yet to find any indication of it.
Michael Moore is telling our youth your parents are always wrong and you should never listen to them.
Jane Smiley at Slate Magazine is talking about Why Americans Hate Democrats
Hunter S. Thompson who is considered the godfather of gonzo, once - when speaking about people who voted for George W. Bush - said this: They are the racists and hate mongers among us -- they are the Ku Klux Klan. I piss down the throats of these Nazis. Thompson on election night deemed the election "another failure of the youth vote" saying "Yeah, we rocked the vote all right. Those little bastards betrayed us again."
Driving to the office yesterday I caught a little of a talk show host on Air America telling her listeners that this election was 'stolen'.
I'm still trying to digest all of this.
Feeling let-down after losing an election is normal. But I am not so sure this is stuff we can classify under the 'normal' category.
The Democratic Party has a lot of soul searching to do. The picture of Michael Moore sharing the presidential booth at the Democratic Convention is still seared.....SEARED in my mind.....and if that extremism doesn't change soon, I am afraid the Democratic Party will be a party of the past.
