Chris Matthews, apparently unable to contain himself, suggested last night that the high point of President Bush's State of the Union Address - the emotional hug between grateful Iraqi voter Safia Taleb al-Suhail and Janet Norwood, mother of a Marine who died liberating her country - was staged by the White House.
Pat Buchanan heard Matthews and countered: I heard you talking, Chris. And I was a communications director. That was not a rehearsed moment...Buchanan also said a couple of times that "we are too cynical" but Matthews wanted to drive his point home to the audience (is there anyone still watching?)
After more discussion on the point, Matthews finished with this: This is done so often, Pat. You are acting so naive about this..
If that is your definition of naive, Matthews, let it be so...I would rather be naive than stilted, egotisticical, bombastic, and pompous...all of which come immediately to mind whenever I hear your name...
