Arizona Voters Take Care of Business

The WashingtonTimes is reporting today Arizona initiative inspires others, speaking about Proposition 200 that passed last week.

Prop 200, The Arizona Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act, better known to us AZ voters as the "Protect Arizona Now" initiative, was an Arizona immigration initiative requiring verifiable identification to vote or receive public benefits.

More specifically, the citizens' initiative:

Requires proof of citizenship when registering to vote.

Requires proof of identity when voting.

Requires proof of eligibility for non-federally mandated public benefits.

We heard many arguments against this proposition before heading to the polls on November 2nd, and most of those arguments contained scare tactics in the hopes of defeating it. The one we heard most often was that illegals would be denied emergency services, which was not true.

One of the biggest problems when living in a border state has been the huge influx of illegal immigrants who are getting bolder by the day.

I personally see nothing wrong with requiring proof of citizenship when registering to vote and proof of identity when asking for the ballot.

AND, I see nothing wrong with requiring proof of eligibility for public benefits.

Hey, who pays for those benefits anyway?

Well, you and me - Mr. and Mrs. America. The TAXPAYERS.

You see, what happens is this - a person that is here illegally has to give a Social Security number if they are going to work. If they are here illegally - well, they have to buy a FAKE SS card to give to that employer.

Now, I have been here for a long time and I have personally witnessed these folks claiming 8, 9, or even 10 dependents on their paycheck so that no federal income tax or state income tax is taken out. The Social Security cannot be avoided.

So what happens is - they never file a tax return. Never pay taxes. Never contribute to the system that is providing them food stamps, housing, medical care, schooling for their children, etc.

Get the picture?

This scenario is IF they are working for someone that hires them as an employee.

A lot of times they are simply given money to work - SOMETIMES given a 1099, in which case no Social Security is taken out, no taxes.

Phony SS number, no tax return filed.

These people have figured out the system so that we are taking care of them, educating their children - many times at the detriment of our own children because their children don't speak English so the teachers are left helping them more and ignoring the taxpayers' children.

In Tucson, one hospital has already had to close because of the millions of dollars of unpaid medical services for people that cross the border and go in for medical attention.

It's a mess.

The Mexican government said yesterday that the initiative "will lead to discrimination based on racial profiling while limiting access to basic health and educational services."

Uh, no. Start taking care of your own people, Vicente Fox! You live like a king. Stop encouraging your people to come here illegally and work with us through immigration channels.

I am not inhumane. If someone needs emergency medical services, of course we are going to render it, but this has gotten completely out of hand and the people that are supposed to be taking care of the citizens of this state have turned a deaf ear and a blind eye to the problem.

Hence, Prop 200.

Governor Napolitano said she will sign the bill once it is certified, bowing to the will of the people.

Actually, Guv, you have no choice in the matter.

The people have spoken.
