From Iraq, on the 2nd anniversary of the War on Iraq, comes this from a 26 year-old Iraqi:
....you ask me, Husayn, was it worth it. What have you gotten? What has Iraq acheived? These are questions I get a lot.
To may outsiders, like those who protested last year, who will protest today. This was a fools errand, it brought nothing but death and destruction. I am sheltered in Iraq, but I know how the world feels, how people have come to either love or hate Bush, as though heis the emobdiement of this war. As though this war is part of Bush, they forget the over twenty million Iraqis, they forget the Middle Easterners, they forget the average person on the street, the average man with the average dream.
Ask him if it was worth it. Ask him what is different. Ask him if he would go through it again, go ahead ask him, ask me, many of you have.
Now I answer you, I answer you on behalf of myself, and my countrymen. I dont care what your news tells you, what your television and newspapers say, this is how we feel. Despite all that has happened. Despite all the hurt, the pain, blood, sweat and tears. These two years have given us hope we never had.
Before March 20, 2003, we were in a dungeon. We did not see the light. Saddam Hussain was crushing Iraq's spirit slowly, we longed for his end, but knew we could not challenge him, or his diabolical seed who would no doubt follow him and continue his generation of hell on Earth.
Since then, we now have hope. Hope is not a tangible thing, but it is something, it is more than being blinded by darkness, by being stuck in a mental pit without any future.
Hope has been the greatest product of the last two years. No doubt, many have died, many have died by accident or due to crimes. But their sacrifices are not, and will not be for nothing. I refuse to let it be, and my countrymen stand with me.
Our cities are smoking, our graveyards full, and terrorists in our midst. But we are not defeated. We are not down, we are not regretful. We are not going to surrender. For all that the two years have brought, the greatest thign they have given us is a future, and a view of the finish line.
Iraqis see the finish line, the finish line of freedom and democracy and a functioning nation. We can smell it, taste it, and like a sprinter, one who has broken his legs, but who has a heart full of passion, we will crawl there no matter what the cost. No matter what we must endure, we have realized what we can become, and that is the biggest result of the last two years.
Noone can take that from us. Not the terrorists, not those who want to question the good of the removal of Saddam, not those who want to reduce our glory for politics, none.
We have been brought from darkness to light. And not only has the future been made better for Iraq, but the martyrs of our nation, their blood is watering the roots of democracy across the world. We are watching our neighbors come closer to the light, and this only pushes us more, and makes us stronger in our burning desire to reach the finish line, to realize the dream that our people have had for so long.
No, we will not give up, and we will not say that the last two years were a waste. They for all their trouble have been momentus. They for us, have been a turning point in history. Whether or not you agree, this is how it looks from Iraq.
So now you know...
The protesters are not speaking for the people of Iraq...

Qatar hunts Qaeda link in theatre blast
Investigators are hunting for clues to any possible al Qaeda involvement in the suicide bomb attack by an Egyptian on a Qatar theatre that killed a Briton, the first such attack inthe U.S.-allied Gulf Arab state.

Iraqi's Are Taking Back Their Country: 7 al-Zarqawi insurgents found slain in retaliation for killing
When more than 80 bodies were found last week at four different places in Iraq, a fifth gruesome discovery attracted little notice:
In the violent city of Ramadi, a center of Sunni insurgent activity 60 miles west of Baghdad, the bodies of seven men were found lined up in an unfinished house on the western outskirts of town, according to eyewitnesses.
Unlike the corpses elsewhere, which were mostly Iraqi police and soldiers, the bodies in Ramadi apparently were foreigners, fighters working for Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who has claimed responsibility for suicide bombings, kidnappings and assassinations.
Each of the seven had been shot in the head or torso. The bodies were secretly buried in a local cemetery, the witnesses said....
A notice from al-Zarqawi's group was posted on the gate outside a Ramadi mosque this week announcing the death of the seven men and calling their killers "blasphemers, far from the religion of God, who betrayed the mujaheddin after they trusted them." It vowed to find the killers, described as "followers of the occupiers," and behead them....
At the Dulaimi family compound this week in the Abu Marie neighborhood of Ramadi, Sulaiman's father, Hamad Dulaimi, 73, sat on a bench as a group of children played in the yard. The surrounding streets and rooftops were crowded with armed men.
"These are the children of Sulaiman, who was killed by those bastards," he said.
Sulaiman's wife joined him: "Now we can talk, because we got revenge," she said.
"If I didn't know that my son was innocent, I wouldn't have sent his cousins for revenge," the father said. "But for we Arabs, the matter of revenge is like honor. Both are the same for us."
As for al-Zarqawi's promise to retaliate, he said: "We got our revenge, and we have our precautions. Let them do as they like."

Court sentences al-Zarqawi and collaborator to 15 years jail
Jordan’s military court sentenced wanted terror leader Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi to 15 years jail and a detained associate to three years behind bars on Sunday for the 2003 Jordanian Embassy attack in Baghdad that killed 18 people.
The court convicted al-Zarqawi, Iraq’s most wanted terrorist, and Al-Miqdad Mohammad al-Dabbas, 24, of conspiracy to attack the embassy.

Nurse: Terri Can Eat Normally
A certified nursing assistant who cared for Terri Schiavo in 1997 filed a sworn affidavit in the case stating that she was able to feed Schiavo normally on multiple occasions - but that husband Michael Schiavo would only allow a feeding tube.
Heidi Law, a CNA at the Palm Gardens nursing home, testified:
"At least three times during any shift where I took care of Terri, I made sure to give Terri a wet washcloth filled with ice chips, to keep her mouth moistened. I personally saw her swallow the ice water and never saw her gag.
"[Another CNA] and I frequently put orange juice or apple juice in her washcloth to give her something nice to taste, which made her happy. On three or four occasions I personally fed Terri small mouthfuls of Jello, which she was able to swallow and enjoyed immensely."
Law testified that the only reason she didn't attempt to feed Ms. Schiavo more frequently was "because I was so afraid of being caught by Michael."
Editorializing on the case in light of Law's account, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette said Sunday: "It is one thing to withdraw a feeding tube; another entirely to withhold that day's meal tray."
Carla Sauer Iyer was a registered nurse at the same facility. In her own affidavit Iyer testified that Ms. Schiavo was capable of speech, explaining, "[Terri] spoke on a regular basis, saying such things as 'Mommy' and 'help me.'"
When she put a washcloth in Terri's hands to keep her fingers from curling together, Iyer said, "Michael saw it and made me take it out, saying that was therapy" that he had forbidden.
"Throughout my time at Palm Gardens, Michael Schiavo was focused on Terri's death," the RN noted. "Michael would say 'When is she going to die?' 'Has she died yet?' and 'When is that bitch gonna die?'"

The attorney for a Florida man who had his wife's feeding tube disconnected on Friday is calling on New York Sen. Hillary Clinton and her Democratic colleagues to help ensure that the woman's starvation continues until she dies.
Complaining about efforts by congressional Republicans to have Terri Schiavo's feeding tube reinserted, attorney George Felos told a press conference yesterday: "I want to say to Hillary Clinton and John Kerry and Tom Harkin and the - Patrick Leahy and the Democratic senators: Don't do this to Terri Schiavo again."
"To have her feeding tube inserted by a subsequent act of Congress before she dies would be a horrific act upon her body," he claimed.
Felos praised Sen. Ron Wyden for blocking one version of a Senate bill crafted to save Ms. Schiavo's life, saying he made a "valiant effort."
But he urged voters to pressure Clinton and other Democrats to keep the starvation process going:
"I'm going to say again and again to the constituents of Kerry, Clinton, Leahy, Feinstein, Boxer: Terri Schiavo's life is in your hands. ... You write these senators, you call them."
Felos said Democrats who allowed a Senate vote on a milder version of legislation crafted to save Schiavo should be "ashamed."
"Wear your shame for what you did and atone for it, because to trample on [Terri's] rights again would be abhorrent," he railed.
The pro-euthansia attorney said it was "cruel and inhuman" not to starve Ms. Schiavo to death.
"It is cruel and inhuman to say to a patient who says I don't want to be artificially fed to remove her feeding tube, have her enter the death process and then start life support again."
Pledging to save Schiavo's life on Friday, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay called Mr. Felos "the personification of evil."

George Greer ordered the killing of Terry Schiavo to begin on March 18. Terry Schiavo will suffer a very painful starvation death. George Greer decides death. He denied six motions without access to hearing. Greer gets to kill Terry because he is a judge. And this judge’s bloody hands will make every official and citizen in Florida a Pontius Pilate.
Judge George Greer will kill Terry Schiavo as his exercise of ''choice.'' The law didn’t demand her death for a crime. A jury of her peers didn’t condemn her to capital punishment for committing a heinous wrong. A circuit judge finds her family’s pitiful appeal for her life tiresome. He orders her to die. Her life is inconvenient, perhaps incriminating for her husband, now that he has another woman and two kids. He won’t divorce her and give her parents custody as they beg for her life. They offered him all the insurance money, but Michael wants her dead. It’s his choice, adult abortion, and a pro-choice judge will oblige.
It doesn’t matter that Terry responds to people. It means nothing that no one else agrees that she wouldn’t want to live on life support. It’s less than nothing that she is Roman Catholic and Catholics from the Pope down plead for her life. It’s inconsequential that a woman suffering a greater disability recently woke up after 20 years. It’s worthless that studies indicate that persons in comas hear, feel, and know more than ever suspected.
Judge George Greer plays black-robed priest-king-god deciding life and death for a human being. Where is that power of choice in the U.S. Constitution or the Florida Code? Does Florida law say Pinellas County Circuit Judges settle traffic fines, domestic disputes, and “if a person is helpless, the judge can declare them worthless and end their life at the time of his choosing?”
Mr. George Greer will kill Terry Schiavo because no one will stop him. Judges built this power since Thomas Jefferson—who wrote the foundation document of the American Nation and understood its principles best—warned, “The opinion which gives the judges the right to decide what laws are constitutional and what not, not only for themselves in their own sphere of action, but for the Legislature and Executive also in their sphere, would make the Judiciary a despotic branch.” So, it came true from the late 1940s until the U.S. Supreme Court rewrote the Constitution, just made it up, to create a culture of death as ''the law of the land'' in Roe v. Wade (1973).
No federal or state legislature, or executive, stood up to the bullying judiciary. The politicians elected by The People didn’t limit the jurisdiction of the courts, abolish the courts and fix them, or impeach them – as the Constitution gives them the right, and duty, to do. The appointed politicians on the bench, and they are political animals, became corrupted by power.
Judges ban the free exercise of Christianity from public places and cleanse the monuments to the Judeo-Christian Ten Commandments with impunity. Judges play God if our rights are what judges say, not God-given. Who is going to stop them? Where are leaders who believe what Thomas Jefferson said, “A free people claim their rights as derived from the laws of nature and not as a gift from their chief magistrate. The God who gave us life gave us liberty at the same time; the hand of force may destroy, but can not disjoin them?”
The People must lead when leaders fail. Especially, if Americans believe as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “There are two types of laws: just and unjust. One has not only a legal, but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws.” This includes unjust judges.
The test for just and unjust laws isn’t the fact that a priest-king for Human Secular Totalitarianism, called a judge, says so. Dr. King said, “A just law is a man-made law that squares with the moral law or the law of God. An unjust law is code that is out of harmony with the moral law.”
Gov. Bush: Grant clemency. Have state troopers protect Terry Schiavo--endowed by her “Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Florida Legislature: Impeach George Greer.
Florida Citizens: Demand action or lose your liberty to Judicial Tyrants.

Tenured Professor Fabricates Research To Secure Grants

the latest? A former medical school professor was accused Thursday of fabricating research data on closely watched topics such as menopause, aging and hormone supplements to win millions of dollars in grant money from the federal government.
Prosecutors said Eric T. Poehlman, 49, a former tenured professor at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, would fabricate his research to make his proposals look more intriguing, in the hope that the government would be more likely to dole out grants to him....diverting millions of dollars from Public Health Service to support his research projects....he actually falsified and fabricated test results...Poehlman lied about the number of subjects he had tested...and changed the data about their physical characteristics and test results to create trends that did not occur in the research...
During the two-year investigation, Poehlman deleted electronic evidence of his falsifications, presented false testimony and documents and influenced other witnesses to provide false documents, the U.S. attorney's office said....Poehlman resigned from the medical school in 2001 and moved to Montreal, Canada to work as a researcher....
The thing that struck me most was that this creep was living high off the hog...falsifying data in order to maintain his lifestyle...and how many people were adversely impacted with his lies?
This is bad...very, very bad...for academia...for you...for me...makes me wonder how many others are out there waiting to be 'discovered'?
