Ronny McDonald Prevails! Cheeseburger Bill Passes In House

The US House of Representatives voted 306-120 on Oct. 19 passing a bill that shields fast-food chains from lawsuits that claim their foods cause obesity.

The bill titled Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act of 2005 (nicknamed "cheeseburger bill") was sponsored by Rep. Ric Keller from Florida and 85 other representatives.

The cheeseburger bill stems from lawsuits accusing McDonald's of causing obesity in tens of thousands of children, according to the Associated Press (AP). The fast food industry asked Congress and state legislatures to protect them from lawsuits blaming their food for obesity. 21 states have already agreed.

The proponents for the bill say consumers can't blame the food service industry for weight gain. The AP quoted Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich. as saying, "you cannot litigate personal choices and lifestyles."

Critics complain that the bill does not encourage people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, and instead pleases the food industry....

Okay! Stop the presses!

Since when is it Ronald McDonald's responsibility about what I decide to put in on my table??

Anyone that would give that kind of responsibility away to some red-wig-clown-freak in the first place is questionable in my mind anyway!

Katrina Refugees Evacuees Binge on Cape: Spend Fed Csh on Booze, Strippers...Some Say They Are Abusing Taxpayers...

Gov. Mitt Romney yesterday acknowledged that alcohol abuse has been a problem among Hurricane Katrina evacuees since their arrival on Cape Cod last month, but said there was little the state could do to stop the refugees from spending their federal money on booze.

"It was quite obvious in the first day or two that we might have an issue with alcohol,'' Romney said, responding to a Herald report that some of the 235 evacuees used their $2,000 federal relief handouts to binge on liquor in public....

The debit card system adopted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Red Cross assumes that most people will act – and spend – responsibly, especially in the wake of a natural disaster like Hurricane Katrina. Herald reporters Maggie Mulvihill and David Wedge have discovered otherwise.

Some of the Katrina evacuees housed at Camp Edwards on the Cape have used those stipends to buy liquor and to fund visits to a local strip club. And because booze was banned on the base itself, sometimes the good times were rolling at a Falmouth strip mall, where public drinking turned into a police matter...

This is really a sad situation...

So taxpayers are well within their rights to feel ``taken'' by the tiny minority of evacuees who abused not only the system but our hospitality. Victims of future disasters may have to pay for that abuse with new restrictions on government generosity.

We have never been huge fans of an eat-your-peas brand of nanny government. However, sadder but wiser taxpayers may now insist on it...

Yes...future refugees will be paying the price for this one for a long, long time to come...

The Tide Is Turning: Iraqi Recruits Prepare to Fight al Zarqawi's Followers

Special operations personnel from both the U.S. Navy and Army finished several weeks of training for the Iraqi Army's newest soldiers just outside Camp Fallujah Oct. 6.

The new Soldiers learned individual and squad movements, reaction to enemy fire and other necessary skills they will use as they join their units.

All the graduates from this course are from the same tribe in western Al Anbar Province near Al Qaim along the Syrian border. The men joined to fight the terrorists who have brought violence to their homes, villages and cities of western Iraq.

"The families and people of Iraq need to be rid of the terrorists. Iraq will only be better if we get more people to join and fight," said Pvt. Abdel.

"I'm going to fight al Zarqawi's followers," Pvt. Ghedha proudly proclaimed one day during a break at the rifle marksmanship range.

"We're going to take everything we learn here and go back and fight the terrorists."

And here is the key phrase:

"Iraq needs us to fight," he continued. "This is our country and we need to fight to keep it safe."

Finally...finally...the roots are taking hold...the Iraqi people - after being beaten down and held down for so long by that murderous Saddam Hussein...

Former FBI Director Louis Freeh on Sunday ACCUSED FORMER PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON (my emphasis) of ditching the investigation into the 1996 bombing of a U.S. barracks in Saudi Arabia to pursue better relations with Iran.

In an interview with CBS' "60 Minutes," Freeh said Clinton failed to seek Saudi cooperation with the investigation into the Khobar Towers attack, which killed 19 U.S. airmen. He said Clinton instead pressed then-Crown Prince Abdullah, now king, for a donation to his presidential library -- a charge the former president's spokesman and a former adviser told CBS was false....

NewsMax Report: Bill Clinton Caught Again

Either Bill Clinton is not telling the truth now about the terrorist threat posed by Iraq during his administration - or he fibbed to the American people while he was in the White House.

Clinton recently told his former staffer-turned TV commentator George Stephanopoulos that the U.S. government had "no evidence that there were any weapons of mass destruction" in Iraq.

But a recent report in the The Weekly Standard headlined "Clinton Revisionism" unmasks Clinton's flip-flops over the Iraq weapons of mass destruction issue.

For example, during an appearance on "Larry King Live" back in July 2003, the former president said:

"When I left office, there was a substantial amount of biological and chemical material unaccounted for."

In October of that year, six months after the war ended, Clinton discussed Iraq with Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Manuel Durao Barroso.

Barroso said: "When Clinton was here recently he told me he was absolutely convinced, given his years in the White House and the access to privileged information which he had, that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction until the end of the Saddam regime."

Last month Clinton discussed the Iraq war with Wolf Blitzer and told him: "I never thought it had much to do with the war on terror."

But in a February 1998 speech warning of an "unholy axis" of terrorists and rogue states, Clinton stated: "There is no more clear example of this threat than Saddam Hussein's Iraq."

That summer six senior Clinton officials accused Iraq of providing chemical weapons expertise to al-Qaida in Sudan.

The Clinton administration cited this link to justify the destruction of a pharmaceutical plant in Sudan supposedly involved in the production of chemical weapons.

The Standard concludes: "Clinton's revisionism is hardly surprising. He has his wife's future in an increasingly anti-war Democratic Party to worry about."

Muslims win toy pigs ban

NOVELTY pig calendars and toys have been banned from a council office — in case they offend Muslim staff.

Workers in the benefits department at Dudley Council, West Midlands, were told to remove or cover up all pig-related items, including toys, porcelain figures, calendars and even a tissue box featuring Winnie the Pooh and Piglet. (my emphasis)

Bosses acted after a Muslim complained about pig-shaped stress relievers delivered to the council in the run-up to the Islamic festival of Ramadan.

Muslims are barred from eating pork in the Koran and consider pigs unclean.

Councillor Mahbubur Rahman, a practising Muslim, backed the ban. He said: “It’s a tolerance of people’s beliefs.”

No. 2 Al Queda Leader to al Zarqawi: Stop Killing Iraqi's

US officials say a letter has been intercepted which appears to be from al-Qaeda number two Ayman al-Zawahiri to the terror network's leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman told reporters the letter warned that the tactics used by the insurgents could alienate the wider Muslim population and that al-Qaeda faced defeat in Afghanistan. "

Zawahiri says that they've lost many of their key leaders... and that their lines of communication and funding have been severely disrupted," he said.

Al-Zawahiri also warns in the letter that activities such as killing hostages and bombing mosques risk alienating the "Muslim masses", who he says must be involved in the eventual governance of Iraq, Whitman told reporters.

The Pentagon spokesman did not give any details of how or where the letter was found, but he said they considered it authentic. The New York Times however, quoted one official as saying the 6,000 word long letter - which is said to have been written in Arabic - was dated early July and was discovered during operations carried out by US troops in Iraq.

Al-Zawahiri - an Egyptian-born doctor - is number two after bin Laden in the US government's 22 Most Wanted Terrorists list, issued in 2001, and has a 25 million dollar bounty on his head. The last reported sighting of him was in the eastern Afghan town of Khost in October 2001....

Aljazeera is also reporting:

"What this letter demonstrates is that they also know the importance of Iraq," he said. "They understand how important Iraq is to their effort, as being central to their efforts right now, to their strategy and to their long-term plans."
