Nora is obviously speaking from her heart to the American people, as evidenced in her closing paragraph:

I don't intend to do that, because experiencing the anti-Americanism I've described has been instructive: Living here and coping with it has forced me to confront my own feelings about America. And it's helped me discover what I do value about it: its contradictions, its eccentricities, its expansive spirit, all the intensity and opportunity of a deeply flawed, widely inconsistent, but always interesting country. Perhaps I am a typical American, after all.

Refusing to accept a secular "fait accompli" from Brussels, a Christian coalition is demanding that each EU state publish its version of the constitution's preamble, with references to God if desired.
Already armed with 1,149,000 signatures and with thousands more pouring in from Holland since the murder of the film-maker Theo van Gogh, the group claims that most states want some reference to Christianity but were blocked by France.

Poll: 55% approve of Bush's leadership
The latest CNN USA Today/Gallup poll is out with astounding news:
President Bush's job approval rating climbed to 55 percent since winning re-election Nov. 2, the highest since the start of the year, according to a Gallup Organization poll for CNN and USA Today.
The poll conducted Friday through Sunday also found that 65 percent of Americans say the country is "greatly divided" on major issues, and 63 percent said the president should pursue an agenda that has support from both parties.
One of the issues on which Americans are split is Iraq, according to the poll by Washington-based Gallup. Forty-eight percent said they favored going to war and 46 percent said they opposed the conflict. Fifty-one percent said the U.S. didn't make a mistake by leading an invasion of Iraq and 47 percent said it was a mistake. That's about the same as it was before the election.
Bush's approval rating was the highest since a Jan. 9-11 poll found 59 percent of adults approved of the job he was doing. In an Oct. 29-30 poll, 48 percent approved of Bush's performance.
Gallup interviewed 1,015 adults for the survey, which has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Bush a Cowboy? What of It?
The Washington Times reports that Chileans are calling President Bush "a cowboy" for intercepting the melee that ocurred Saturday night when Chilean thugs jumped in front of a Secret Service agent trying to prevent him from going with President and Mrs. Bush.
If that is what they are calling a cowboy...Bush is definitely my kinda guy.

We are seeing trouble in Europe...and it is not pretty.
Take this headline, for instance:

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has launched a savage attack on the European Union's budget rules, saying the Stability and Growth Pact had to be reformed if the eurozone wanted to see strong growth.
I can correlate this to similar problems on this continent.
Price caps DON'T WORK! Exhibit A:
There were warnings early on about the energy price caps in California that eventually led to, first brown-outs, then rolling black-outs.
Using California as a model, proponents for price caps were eventually shown the error of their calculations:
Analysts from all perspectives have shown how retail price caps disconnected consumer behavior from the realities of electricity costs and changes in wholesale prices—leading to increased, rather than decreased, consumption in a time of acute scarcity. Increased consumption at prices below cost led to daily financial losses for the state’s electric utilities which in turn drove up wholesale prices even further. Even the state’s Democratic leaders, who long sought to avoid price increases, have come forth and argued that the state’s electricity crisis cannot be solved without price increases.
Which brings us back to the current 'crisis' in Europe:
Working on two fronts simultaneously, the Italian prime minister is determined to relax EU restraints on state spending and also introduce his long-promised tax cuts.
Berlusconi's supporters believe the twin move will kick-start the economy and win back voters disillusioned by three years of sluggish growth....."If taxes are reduced in a consistent and visible fashion, then our journey continues. If not, then the Italians should be called on again so that they can decide their own destiny," he said, making clear he would call elections if necessary.
Lesson learned in California: Price caps DON'T WORK!
Europe, beginning with Italy, needs to pay attention to the historical data that is readily available - it looks like Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is on the right track...hopefully he won't get de-railed....

Britain's security services, according to this report, thwarted a September 11-style attack on targets including Canary Wharf and Heathrow Airport, according to reports.
The plot is said to have involved pilots being trained to fly into target buildings including London's famous financial centre and the world's busiest airport.

Now Try to Convince Me There Weren't Any Ties Between OBL and Iraq...

Osama bin Laden or other senior al Qaeda leaders are trying to communicate with Abu Musab Zarqawi, who is operating what the United States concedes is a "very effective" terrorist ring in Iraq, a senior general said yesterday.
....the disclosure is further evidence that the Jordanian-born Zarqawi, who has maintained links with al Qaeda, now is apparently a full-fledged member. It means that American troops are trying to kill or capture one of al Qaeda's most effective and deadly terrorists, and perhaps the second-most-revered among Islamic militants, after bin Laden himself.
"We do have indications that we believe they are trying to communicate," Gen. Smith said. "Whether it is to congratulate him on having announced that he wants to be part of al Qaeda, or whether it's to communicate and give him instructions or what it is, we don't know. But we do believe that through the process they are trying to communicate."
...the U.S. command in Baghdad previously had disclosed intercepting a letter written by Zarqawi to bin Laden. In it, Zarqawi expressed frustrations that the killing of Americans had not resulted in President Bush's pulling troops out of Iraq.
Zarqawi, who fought U.S. troops in Afghanistan before going to Baghdad for medical treatment, leads cells of foreign and Iraqi terrorists of undetermined numbers. The cells are believed responsible for a series of suicide car bombings and beheadings that have killed hundreds of U.S. personnel and allied Iraqis.
Zarqawi himself has beheaded hostages, then released the gruesome videos.
The evidence is getting stronger...but do we hear any of this on the MSM?
