Arizona leads nation in overall crime rate

Arizona leads the nation in overall crime rate, overall property-crime rate and motor-vehicle theft, according to a new report.

The state is second in larceny rates, fourth in burglary rates and fifth in homicide rates.

A report from the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission said that Arizona has had the highest crime rate in the nation since 2000.

"Tucson's close proximity to the (Mexican) border and the rising use of methamphetamines are directly correlated to the city's crime rate," said Capt. Brett Klein, the Tucson Police Department's chief of staff.
